I drew this portrait in 2023, during one of the most difficult periods of my life. It isn’t a self-portrait, but it carries my own feelings from that time. The damp strands of hair, the heaviness in the eyes, the subdued expression — they reflect a kind of sadness I knew well. Working only in pencil kept it raw and unadorned, letting shadow and light do the speaking. For me, it was less about creating a likeness and more about giving shape to emotions I couldn’t put into words.
