Blue Ara

Blue Ara (2023) is about flight more than stillness. I let the blues run and bloom across the paper so the form reads like an aura in motion — not every feather drawn, but the suggestion of lift and direction. Broad, sweeping washes and quick, calligraphic strokes give the piece its momentum: the blues push upward and outward, while the textured background holds them in place. As someone who works with old techniques, I enjoy that tension between study and spontaneity here — a classical attention to form filtered through an instinctive, contemporary handling of watercolor. For me it’s a small celebration of movement and color, a moment of release captured in pigment.
